Who we are, what we cover, and how we make money (or don’t, yet).

Who we are

Dial & Drape is a free weekly newsletter for guys who like good watches and want to wear them well. Most watch writing stops at the wrist. Most style writing treats the watch as an afterthought. We connect the two.

Think of us as the knowledgeable friend you’d text before buying a watch: honest about what’s worth it, upfront about the trade-offs, and never snobby about price.

What we cover

Every Thursday at 8 AM ET, you get:

  • ⌚ Watch Spotlight. One watch worth knowing, with the real specs: size, thickness, lug-to-lug, movement, and water resistance.
  • πŸ‘” Style Tip. One practical way to wear it, down to the strap, the shirt, and the shoes.
  • πŸ›οΈ Curated Picks. A few honest options around the same idea, from first good watch to considered splurge.
  • πŸ“° Worth Knowing. A short note on what’s new in the watch world.

On the website, we also publish buying guides and comparisons, like the best field watches under $500 or Tissot PRX vs Seiko 5.

How we pick

  • Real numbers. Specs come from the brand’s own pages. Prices are list prices from each brand’s official US site, and we say the date we checked them.
  • Know the limits. Every pick gets an honest “here’s what it won’t do,” whether that’s a small case, a mineral crystal, or splash-only water resistance.
  • Wearability first. We care how a watch looks with what you actually wear, not just how it looks in a box.
  • No pay-for-play. No brand can pay to be included in our picks or to change what we say about it.

Our one rule: buy one good, simple watch, then spend your style budget on straps.

Affiliate disclosure

Right now, Dial & Drape isn’t paid by any brand we mention. Our product links go straight to each brand’s official site.

In the future, some links in our newsletter and posts may be affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. When a post or issue includes affiliate links, we’ll say so clearly in that post. If we ever run a sponsored placement, it will be labelled “Sponsored.”

Either way, a commission never decides what we feature or what we say about it. If a watch isn’t worth your money, we’ll tell you, whether or not there’s a link.
